Chef Program

Special Interest Classes
For Minnow, Starfish, or ½ day Kindergarten aged children
(Provides 3, 4, or 5-day options for Starfish and Minnows)

This class is an optional, one day class available on either Thursday morning or afternoon. In this class children are exposed to a wide variety of skills while focusing on a theme for the day. The children actually prepare their own snack after hearing and participating in a special story related to the snack (such as "Gingerbread Boy" and gingerbread cookies). Through the lessons, math skills, such as measuring, estimation, and addition are introduced and practiced. Science skills are cultivated through predicting, hypothesizing, and observation. Reading and literacy skills are reinforced through classroom activities related to the theme of the day, which may include dictating a story or creating a craft project. Children also learn about the people, customs, and foods from other countries in a world tour of multicultural studies throughout the year.
